My “4 Star London Tourist Board” apartment is in West Kensington. There are no Bentleys parked on the street and no Bulgari jeweler just round the corner (as my day in Westminster was occupied with). This is a very middle class, working neighborhood. Everything a middle class person needs is almost next door. The West Kensington tube station is a block and a half away. I have at least two well stocked grocers within a block and every other sort of need right at hand (cleaners, coffee houses, restaurants, hardware stores). From the outside this place looks like any other nondescript row house (initially tough to find without any signage or numbering). I should call this my London hideout. On the inside it is clean, comfortable and efficient. The double glazed windows would block out all noise - if there was any. It has a stereo and a HDTV neither of which I use (all the channels here are in HD). The wireless internet connects me at hyper-speed (better than at my SD home). And after the exchange rate, it is costing me $100 USD per day.
