Sleepy Bay

Sleepy Bay

November 28, 2017

Environmentally this is a really clean land. The water is crystal clear. The air is totally clean. There is no industry and relatively few vehicles (with their emissions easily blown away by the winds). But with global warming, the ocean temperature along the east coast has risen 2 degrees Celsius in the last 60 years. This has caused the ocean currents to reverse. Warmer, nutrient-poor water now flows down from the north (reversing the flow of nutrient-rich water from Antarctica). The kelp forests are dying and sea-urchins (the lawn-mowers of the ocean bottom) are flourishing. Tasmanians understand the interconnections of ecosystems.
